ARTICLE 5 – REFEREE INTERVENTION
The referee shall exercise immediate authority, direction, and control over the fight to which
he has been designated, and it shall be his responsibility to enforce the rules and regulations
governing all bouts sanctioned by the Bali Fighting Club™.
The referee shall be the only authorized person to determine, or to decide, if the injuries or
wounds suffered during the fight have been produced by a legal or illegal action, and if it was
accidental or intentional.
The referee shall have the authority to stop the fight and make a decision, pursuant to the
regulations, during any stage of the fight, if he considers the bout has become "one-sided", or
if any of the contenders is in such condition that if the fight continues, he is liable to suffer
serious injury.
In case a contestant suffers a cut or a wound which the referee considers to be dangerous,
the referee has the authority to stop the fight. The referee must consult with the ring doctor
on the seriousness of the wound and the ability of the damaged fighter to continue the
contest. The attending doctor shall give his advice to the referee, but the referee is the only
authorized person to stop the contest.
The referee may call a break in the match and separate the contestants under the following
conditions:
- When an illegal action is committed (see Article 4).
- When both fighters are in the standing clinch position and the fight is deadlocked without
any effective action.
- When both fighters reach a stalemate on the ground and do not work to improve position,
escape, or finish their opponent, it is at the discretion of the referee to separate the fighters
and return them to a standing position.
- If a fighter falls to his guard or is put on his back, he will be stood back up, unless the
standing fighter engages him. If the standing fighter wants the downed fighter back on his
feet, he should back off and allow for him to stand up.
- In the case that the fighters are about to fall or move out of the contest area, the referee
shall call "Don't Move." Both fighters must stop all movement and wait for the referee to
direct them to the center of the ring, where they will resume the fight in the same position.
If the fighters move outside the contest area, the referee will direct them to return to the
middle of the contest area and resume fighting in the same position as designated by the
referee.
The referee shall use the following commands to direct the pace of the match and signal
instructions to the competitors:
- Stop. Don't move. – When the referee wants the fighters to stop action and
return to the center of the ring in the same position.
- Break. – When the referee wants the fighters to separate.
- Stand up. – When the referee wants the fighters to return to the standing position.
- Fight. – When the referee wants the fighters to engage.
- Give up. – When the referee wants the fighter to signal surrender.
As a general guideline, the referee shall allow for the competitors to dictate the pace of the
match. The referee's primary duty is to ensure the safety of the fighters.
